Water Features in Phoenix, AZ

Moving water changes how a backyard feels. It masks traffic and neighbors, cools the air immediately around it through evaporation, and gives the space a focal point that works just as well lit at night as it does at midday. AZ Outdoor Concepts designs and builds water features throughout the Phoenix metro — from a single bubbling urn beside a patio to a full stacked-stone waterfall wall.

We build features to match the scale and style of the space. Sheer-descent and scupper walls suit clean, contemporary yards and pair well with a linear fire element on the opposite side. Natural rock waterfalls and boulder cascades fit desert and resort-style landscapes. Bubbling urns, basalt columns, and pot fountains are the low-commitment option — self-contained, compact, and effective at small scale where a full feature would overwhelm the yard.

What Our Clients Say

“I will start by saying I was not asked to leave a review and did not know of this company before hiring them for our pool remodel. We could not have had a better experience with Az Pool Concepts. Our pool looks amazing and the whole process was so easy and seamless. Shawn was in constant communication about what and when things were happening, he was here every day overseeing the work being done and was always available by text with any questions we had. He exceeded our expectations and I truly cannot recommend them enough.”

“I hired Shawn and AZ Pool Concepts to demo and remove a permanent grill and fire pit to create more space, replace travertine that had been eroded by my salt pool with pearlescent limestone. Shawn and his team did an excellent job. His communication, integrity and customer service are all top notch, along with customer satisfaction in the project When I was looking to hire someone these are the attributes I was looking for. I highly recommend AZ Pool Concepts.”

“What a great experience... from the time we first contacted him to the finished product! Communication was quick and clear, the timeframe to start the job was excellent and the finished product looks amazing. We interviewed 6 companies and Shawn was the best candidate by far. We will use them again.”

“Shawn responded to my email inquiry the next morning, and came out that day to bid on our Travertine Patio and walkway job. His pricing was very fair, and actually got the whole job done in three days!! We went on vacation the day the crew started, and came home to a perfect install, clean-up, and could not be happier!”

The engineering behind the feature is what determines whether you enjoy it or resent it. We size the pump and plumbing for the flow the feature actually needs, build basins with adequate reservoir volume so evaporation doesn't run them dry between refills, seal and waterproof correctly, and place equipment where it's accessible and quiet. Auto-fill and LED lighting are worth specifying up front — retrofitting either one later means opening up finished work.

More About Our Water Features Work

Water features work best when they're planned with the hardscape rather than added to it — plumbing sleeves and conduit go in before the pavers, not after. Whenever we're already building a patio, wall, or pool deck, adding a feature is dramatically simpler and less expensive.

AZ Outdoor Concepts builds custom water features across the Valley. Contact us for a free on-site consultation and we'll talk through what fits the space and the budget.

Our Process

How We Work

Step 1

Free Design Consultation

We walk your yard with you, talk through how you actually want to use the space — cooking, entertaining, shade, play, low upkeep — and get a feel for materials, layout, and budget. No pressure, no obligation.

Step 2

Custom Design & Estimate

You get a full backyard design and a clear, itemized written estimate covering layout, hardscape materials, structures, plants, and timeline — and we handle the permitting with your city.

Step 3

Build & Installation

Our own crews handle every phase — grading and drainage, compacted base, pavers, walls, structures, turf, irrigation, and planting — built to hold up to Arizona sun, monsoon runoff, and caliche soil.

Step 4

Walkthrough & Aftercare

We clean up, walk the finished space with you, and show you how to care for it. We're not perfect, but we'll always be here when you need us.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How much water does a water feature lose to evaporation in Arizona?
More than people expect, especially June through August. That's why we size basins with reserve volume and recommend an auto-fill line on most features — it turns a weekly chore into something you never think about.
Are water features noisy?
You control that through drop height and flow rate. A short sheer descent produces a soft, consistent sound; a tall multi-drop waterfall is much louder. We'll tune it during commissioning to what you actually want.
Can a water feature be added to an existing patio or pool?
Often yes. The constraints are plumbing runs, an electrical source for the pump, and whether the existing structure can carry the weight. We'll evaluate all three during the consultation.
What maintenance does a water feature need?
Keeping the basin topped up, occasional cleaning, and periodic treatment to prevent algae and scale. Our hard water means most Valley features benefit from a scale inhibitor.
Do water features actually cool the area around them?
Locally, yes. Evaporative cooling makes a measurable difference within a few feet of moving water — noticeably so on a covered patio with a feature nearby.
How much does a water feature cost in Phoenix?
A self-contained bubbling urn is a modest add-on; a custom stacked-stone waterfall wall with lighting is a significant one. We'll price the specific feature after seeing the space.
