Pavers & Hardscaping in Phoenix, AZ

Hardscape is the floor of your backyard, and it's the single decision that most affects how the finished space feels. AZ Outdoor Concepts installs paver and travertine patios, walkways, driveways, and pool decks throughout the Phoenix metro — designed for how you'll move through the yard and built on a base that will still be flat in fifteen years.

The difference between hardscape that lasts and hardscape that fails is almost entirely underneath it. Arizona's caliche and expansive clay soils, combined with monsoon runoff, punish shortcuts. We excavate to proper depth, install and compact aggregate base in lifts, set a screeded bedding layer, cut and lay the field, then compact, sand, and edge-restrain the finished surface. It's slower and it costs more than a thin sand set, and it's the reason our patios don't develop the sunken, wavy look you see all over the Valley.

What Our Clients Say

“I will start by saying I was not asked to leave a review and did not know of this company before hiring them for our pool remodel. We could not have had a better experience with Az Pool Concepts. Our pool looks amazing and the whole process was so easy and seamless. Shawn was in constant communication about what and when things were happening, he was here every day overseeing the work being done and was always available by text with any questions we had. He exceeded our expectations and I truly cannot recommend them enough.”

“I hired Shawn and AZ Pool Concepts to demo and remove a permanent grill and fire pit to create more space, replace travertine that had been eroded by my salt pool with pearlescent limestone. Shawn and his team did an excellent job. His communication, integrity and customer service are all top notch, along with customer satisfaction in the project When I was looking to hire someone these are the attributes I was looking for. I highly recommend AZ Pool Concepts.”

“What a great experience... from the time we first contacted him to the finished product! Communication was quick and clear, the timeframe to start the job was excellent and the finished product looks amazing. We interviewed 6 companies and Shawn was the best candidate by far. We will use them again.”

“Shawn responded to my email inquiry the next morning, and came out that day to bid on our Travertine Patio and walkway job. His pricing was very fair, and actually got the whole job done in three days!! We went on vacation the day the crew started, and came home to a perfect install, clean-up, and could not be happier!”

Material choice matters just as much in this climate. Travertine stays dramatically cooler underfoot than concrete or dark pavers, which is why it's our most-requested pool deck and patio surface. Concrete pavers give you more color and pattern range for driveways and walkways and can be lifted and reset individually if you ever need access underneath. We'll walk you through the tradeoffs — heat, glare, texture, maintenance, and cost — and help you pick the surface that fits the space.

More About Our Pavers & Hardscaping Work

Pavers and hardscaping are the backbone of nearly every project we build. They connect the outdoor kitchen to the pool, the side gate to the front walk, and the patio to the turf — and when the transitions are planned together instead of piecemeal, the whole yard reads as intentional.

AZ Outdoor Concepts has installed hardscape across Phoenix, Scottsdale, Mesa, Gilbert, Chandler, Queen Creek, and the surrounding communities for over 18 years. Contact us for a free on-site consultation and a written estimate.

Our Process

How We Work

Step 1

Free Design Consultation

We walk your yard with you, talk through how you actually want to use the space — cooking, entertaining, shade, play, low upkeep — and get a feel for materials, layout, and budget. No pressure, no obligation.

Step 2

Custom Design & Estimate

You get a full backyard design and a clear, itemized written estimate covering layout, hardscape materials, structures, plants, and timeline — and we handle the permitting with your city.

Step 3

Build & Installation

Our own crews handle every phase — grading and drainage, compacted base, pavers, walls, structures, turf, irrigation, and planting — built to hold up to Arizona sun, monsoon runoff, and caliche soil.

Step 4

Walkthrough & Aftercare

We clean up, walk the finished space with you, and show you how to care for it. We're not perfect, but we'll always be here when you need us.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Are pavers or concrete better for Arizona heat?
Light-colored travertine and paver surfaces run noticeably cooler than poured concrete and far cooler than dark stamped finishes. Travertine is the coolest common option, which is why it dominates pool decks here.
How long do pavers last in Phoenix?
A properly base-prepped paver or travertine installation lasts decades. Because the units are individually set, damaged or stained pieces can be swapped out instead of replacing the whole surface.
Will pavers sink or shift over time?
Not when the base is done correctly. Settling almost always traces back to insufficient excavation, uncompacted base, or missing edge restraint — which is exactly where we don't cut corners.
Can you install pavers over an existing concrete slab?
Sometimes. If the slab is sound and drains away from the house we can overlay it, but it raises finished height and can create threshold and drainage problems. We'll assess the slab and tell you honestly whether overlay or removal is the better call.
Do paver patios need sealing in Arizona?
Sealing is optional. It deepens color and makes cleanup easier, but our UV exposure means sealed surfaces need re-coating every few years. Plenty of Valley homeowners leave travertine unsealed and are happy with it.
How much does a paver patio cost in Phoenix?
Cost tracks square footage, material, pattern complexity, and how much demolition and grading the site needs. You'll get an itemized estimate after we walk the yard.
