Outdoor rooms at estate scale

Paradise Valley incorporated in 1961 to protect its low-density residential character, and most homes sit on lots of an acre or more. That gives outdoor living room to breathe. A typical project here isn't one structure but a sequence of spaces: a shaded dining terrace off the great room, an outdoor kitchen and bar, a fire lounge for winter evenings and a pool terrace, all connected by stone paving and planting.

AZ Outdoor Concepts designs those spaces together, so the finished property reads as one composition. Ramadas are detailed to match the home's rooflines and finishes, utilities and lighting are concealed, and material transitions line up instead of meeting approximately.

Hillside lots and Town review

Homes on the slopes of Camelback Mountain and Mummy Mountain fall under the Town of Paradise Valley's hillside regulations, which add review for grading, land disturbance and walls. Those projects take longer to approve, and the design has to work with the slope rather than flatten it. We plan terraces, retaining walls and structures with that review in mind from the first sketch.

Across the Town, ramadas, outdoor kitchens and other improvements need Town of Paradise Valley permits and have to respect the setbacks on your lot. We prepare the plans, handle the submittals and coordinate inspections.

Materials and lighting for Paradise Valley homes

Materials here are usually a step up: large-format travertine or limestone with tight joints, natural stone veneers, ramadas with integrated lighting and fans, and fire features built into walls and seating. Water features are often the centerpiece, built into walls and hardscape rather than set apart.

Lighting matters as much as the stone. Low, shielded fixtures light paths, steps and specimen plants without glare toward the neighbors, and show off the landscape long after sunset.

One team from design to walkthrough

Estate projects involve many trades: masonry, structures, gas, electrical, plumbing, irrigation and planting. We coordinate all of them and give you one point of contact through the build. As a small, family-owned company, the person who designs your project is the person you'll see on site.

What Our Clients Say

Real Google reviews from Phoenix-area homeowners, posted to the profiles of AZ Pool Concepts, our sister company.

“I will start by saying I was not asked to leave a review and did not know of this company before hiring them for our pool remodel. We could not have had a better experience with Az Pool Concepts. Our pool looks amazing and the whole process was so easy and seamless. Shawn was in constant communication about what and when things were happening, he was here every day overseeing the work being done and was always available by text with any questions we had. He exceeded our expectations and I truly cannot recommend them enough.”

“I hired Shawn and AZ Pool Concepts to demo and remove a permanent grill and fire pit to create more space, replace travertine that had been eroded by my salt pool with pearlescent limestone. Shawn and his team did an excellent job. His communication, integrity and customer service are all top notch, along with customer satisfaction in the project When I was looking to hire someone these are the attributes I was looking for. I highly recommend AZ Pool Concepts.”

“Shawn responded to my email inquiry the next morning, and came out that day to bid on our Travertine Patio and walkway job. His pricing was very fair, and actually got the whole job done in three days!! We went on vacation the day the crew started, and came home to a perfect install, clean-up, and could not be happier!”

FAQ

Outdoor Living in Paradise Valley: Common Questions

Can you match a ramada to my home's architecture?
Yes. We detail ramadas to match the house, including the roof profile, fascia, columns, stucco color and stone. Fans, lighting and heaters are integrated so no wiring shows.
How long does an outdoor living project take in Paradise Valley?
On larger projects, design and Town approvals often take longer than construction, especially on hillside lots. A single ramada and kitchen is a matter of weeks to build, while a full property with terraces, structures and planting takes longer. You'll get a schedule with the estimate.
Do you design the landscape and lighting too?
Yes. Planting, irrigation and landscape lighting are planned with the hardscape and structures, so the property works as one design, day and night.
Can you work around mature trees on my property?
Yes. Mature trees are hard to replace, so we locate root zones before design and route trenches and footings around them. Paving near trees is planned so water and air still reach the roots.
What does a Paradise Valley outdoor living project usually include?
Typically some combination of a ramada or shade structure, an outdoor kitchen and bar, a fire feature, stone hardscape, a water feature, landscape and lighting. We design them together and build them with one team.
